Welcome to Dormouse Class Blog

This is the page that you can visit to keep updated on the children's learning. Make sure you come back each week to see the learning opportunities that the children have been taking part in.

Spring Week 10

Y2 had a very enjoyable practical day on Monday with their design technology project - making a vehicle that moved with a special feature. Linked to their learning this term, they all made a fire engine but before doing so they had to design it. Last week they investigated how to make a fixed axle with free turning wheels and then a free moving axle with fixed wheels. They had to decide which axle was best for their for their model and then make and test it. They began their project with a bit of knowledge to then use and apply to their own designs. Thanks to Mr Wilton our chair of governors for offering a helping hand throughout the day.

Spring Week 9

This week year 2 had a great week and enjoyed building their gliders as part of science week. They worked in teams and then tested their gliders in the hall.

They also had an animal encounter experience where they were able to get very close to different animals. They could touch them if they wanted to and ask questions. The children learnt some facts about where they lived in their natural environment, what they ate and what else they needed to grow and be healthy. The millipede had lots of legs and Freya thought it felt 'tickly' when it walked on her hand. Violet said the bearded dragon was 'bumpy' to touch.

In DT this week the children tested axles finding different ways to attach them.

Congratulations to Penelope who received the headteachers award this week. Well done!

Spring Week 8

This week year 2 went to the Aerozone at Stansted airport. They had a fabulous time learning all about Stansted Airport. They learnt all about its history and how it has grown over time. They found out about the jobs and who works there. They met 'George' the sniffer dog and Mark, Gary and the other firefighters who let us have a go using the hose and 'water blaster'. The water shot out like a rocket! We dressed up and became pilots, police officers and stewards. The STEM activities were great. These were linked to forces and we could try everything out. We got to see how air, friction and gravity work, making a vortex, flying balls and making an arched bridge with blocks. Enjoy the pictures of the day!

Jett received the headteachers award this week. Well done!

Spring Week 7

This week we found out about  They learnt all about the Takeley Telephone Exchange Explosion and we interviewed an eye witness.

The head teachers award went to Isla this week. Well done!

Spring Week 6

Finally congratulations to Jaxson for his great focus and and enthusiasm for writing. Well done.

Spring Week 5

Our hyacinths are now starting to finish and some of the flowers are dying. In art we used chalk to create pictures of noses to use to create a portrait.

Spring Week 1

This week we started learning about asking questions and representing information using pictograms. We also used oil pastels to draw eyes for a portrait. In PE we have started to develop our ball skills by initially controlling a ball with our hands and aiming at a target. Finally congratulations to Izabella for her great work using interesting and ambitious words. Well done!

Well done to Freya for her great effort with her writing. Congratulations!

Autumn Week 8

The children brought in their wonderful pumpkins.  We had so many we could not fit them all on the table!
